OptiCepts executive chairman Ulf Hagman is interviewed on the benefits with OptiBoost for cut flowers for the flower industry
An OptiBoost for cut flowers system will be installed at the rose grower Red Lands Roses in Kenya. They have expressed particular interest in influencing the consumer experience and durability of the roses delivered to Russia where the transports are very long but also for their customers in Europe.
In April 2021, OptiCept announced that it planned to carry out treatments at Red Lands Roses in Kenya together with our partner Syngenta. The goal was to strengthen the flowers before transport. Following successful results, Red Lands Roses has now chosen to take the next step in the evaluation and install OptiBoost for cut flowers in its production.
After initial positive results with treatments carried out with Syngenta in Kenya, Evaluation of treatment before and after transport is also something that will be further analyzed.
Last week we had the pleasure of announcing an installation at EQR Equatorses in Ecuador, and prior at Porta Nova in The Netherlands.
Red Lands are renowned for their high-quality roses and provide Europe and Russia with their flowers. At the Kenyan farm, a wide assortment of close to 200 varieties of roses is grown.
Red Lands Roses was established in 1996 in Ruiru, 35km Northeast of Nairobi, Kenya. The altitude of 1800m and the proximity to the equator are ideal conditions for the cultivation of roses.
They specialize in growing and exporting T-Hybrid and spray roses of the highest quality.
The roses are grown on 28 hectares of land in over 20 greenhouses on a 100% hydroponic system with full recycling of water, preventing rejects of phosphates and nitrates from seeping into groundwater.
The substrate is volcanic material that is dug out from close to the farm, washed, and sterilized.
Red Lands Roses is internationally recognized for its green horticulture that respects people and the environment.
Green labels have been awarded by several organizations such as FLO-Max Havelaar (Fair Trade Labelling Organisations International), MPS-A (Highest grade for environment care), KFC (Kenya Flower Council, Silver grade), FFP (Fair Flowers Fair Plants, label for the efficiency of the tracking system), GLOBAL-GAP (Good Agricultural Practice).
These organizations perform audits regularly and Red Lands Roses keeps implementing the best practices for a better world.
“The fact that Red Lands now chooses to proceed avec the installation de OptiBoost sur its farm is a very positive signal. Kenya is a major producer de roses and a key market for us. We see great potential in Red Lands as a customer et are excited to now begin the final phase de le evaluation. “Says Johan Möllerström, CEO, OptiCept Technologies.
